Defending 1v1, #1
Defending 1v1, #1
1v1 Both Ways
Players attack 1v1 from four sides, going clockwise. If they beat the defender, the defender stays in the middle. If they lose the 1v1 challenge, they become the defender. New attacks start as soon as the ball leaves the zone.
-
Make sharp changes of speed and direction.
-
Sell your dribbling moves with ball and body feints.
-
Accelerate out of your moves in order to create space.
Defending the 3v2, Both Ways
The GK begins play with a pass to the 3rd attacker, coming on at midfield. The defenders must stay in their own half until the ball crosses over. Upon completion, the attackers go off and the two defenders stay on as their teammate comes on for the next 3v2.
-
Curve your run to the ball and force the play in one direction.
-
Drop straight back into the center after your man passes off.
-
The 2nd defender must cover passes to both the right and left.
6v4, Defending the Box
The players are 6v4 in the final third. The Feeder begins play with a pass in to any one of the six attackers. If the defenders win the ball, they can score on the two small goals placed out on the flanks. Upon completion, the Feeder re-starts play.
-
Always pressure the player with the ball.
-
Be patient and contain the play. Do not stick a foot in.
-
Cover the most dangerous players first.
8v8 Plus Two Game
On a full field, the teams play 8v8 plus two. After the attacking team scores, they keep possession and attack in the other direction. When a goal is scored or the ball is put out of play, the GKs re-start play with a pass to the attacking team.
-
Force the play into a sideline or into defensive help.
-
Cover the most dangerous players first.
-
Step up when the attackers play the ball backwards.
5v5, Quick Games
Teams play 5v5 games to two goals with a five minute time limit. Free play, no stops for coaching. Play is re-started by the GKs. In the event of a tie, the coach can decide to let the defending champs stay on or go off or determine the winner with a crossbar challenge.
-
No stoppages for coaching during play.
