Set Up:
12-16 players are set up in the attacking third, with lines starting at the cones. The Feeder is stationed just outside of the penalty area. To begin the drill, the attacker plays the ball up to the Feeder and runs to goal. The defender releases from the end line with his first touch. The Feeder lays the ball off for the attacker, and play continues 1v1 to completion. When they win the ball, the defenders can score in the two small goals set up outside of the penalty area. Play alternates from one attacking line to the other, and the players rotate to all four lines during the drill.
Coaching Points:
1. Curve your run to the attacker and force him to go in one direction.
2. Control the speed of your approach and be able to change directions. Don’t charge in.
3. Close the distance quickly and then slow down, stopping 3-5 yards from the attacker.
Progressions:
1. Pass the ball back to add another attacker and defender.
